Help with 1974 Jaguar XJ6 thermostat housing
 

hi there, I was needing help due to the fact that my thermostat housing in my 1974 Jaguar XJ6 s2 is cracked this causing a leak

I have a parts car that I can take it off but the only problem is the fact that I do not know how to remove it

if please someone could help me out here
i have found 3 bolts and undid them and there is one mor in the bottom left which is like a nut and when I undid it it leave a stud and the housing does not move one bit

to remove a stud you first spray it for a few days with Rust Blaster to make it safe to remove since it can easily break in two;

then you use two or three nuts tightened together on the stud but not touching the thermostat housing. You thread the first nut very close to the housing, leaving about 1/8" separation;

then thread a second nut and tighten it against the first one while holding the first one with a wrench so it won't move back.
if there is room for one more nut, thread it and repeat.

then attempt to remove the stud using the closest nut to the housing,

you have to be very careful, the stud can break and they do.

Having said that, it seems to me the housing should come off without removing the stud.Have you tried inserting a spatula to break the gasket between the housing and intake?

Mine was corroded in place, a good couple of whacks with a mallet sorted it. Stud stayed in place.

I have tried wacking it but didn’t move

try breaking the gasket seal between both mating parts, it is probably "welded" itself. Use a thin putty knife to gently slice tthrough the gasket, or a thin guitar string no thicker than .009-.010 seesawing through the gasket joint.

I have broken the gasket and the part is still not moving

tap it with a rubber mallet or wood mallet until it gives.
