Help picking colours please!
Ok, here we go. As LnrB predicted, the red clashes with the wooden dash and looks like hell. Shortly after installing, I was planning a re-trim in black.
But I'm going to live with it for a couple of weeks first.
Ya my cupholders look like fat hotel ashtrays but they're really excellent units. Got them from http://evannex.com/products/cup-holder-upgrade
Your [ridicule] opinions are more than welcome. Let 'em fly!

Does your car have this switch, Elinor? It's the fairly useless one that stops everyone in the car from opening the windows. I'm going to repurpose mine to prevent the antenna from rising when I'm listening to something other than radio. Maybe it would work for your AC job?
Once you have installed that switch, will the result be airflow into the cabin without the cooling/driving effect, somewhat like what you can get in cars without climate control?

What a great idea! That means I won't have to fiddle with the ashtrays -- at least not for that.
I did that in another car, put a toggle switch in the power wire to the relay that activates the compressor clutch. It worked very well, and effected nothing else, only kept the compressor from running.
I'm thinking in Nix it will be even more effective because the compressor comes on even in Winter when I want heat. Certainly there will be a power boost during passing, which I do a lot of.
During mild weather, when I don't really need the compressor, I can turn it off completely and let outside air in through the system normally.
Thank you, Greg, for that Great idea!

Thank YOU for your great idea, Elinor. I think I'll be doing as you are with the compressor. I just want air flow and open windows, not cooling. Also my puny 176 hp isn't enough to stop me feeling when the compressor kicks in.

I wish someone would (try to) pass me in a Jag. It NEVER happens. Who's driving the few that are on the road up here? Zombies? I don't mean we members of course. My dad drives like a codger.

I thought it looked OK in the samples, but now, with your wood in the same shot, um, well, not really my thing. Your wood is too orange for that red to look good. On the other hand, Black goes with everything.

Looks pretty good in this shot though, eh?
Moderator: can you add "Prioject Done" to the thread title please? Don't close the thread because I'll add a photo if/when I re-trim in black. Thank you!

Me mum (English) had a hip replaced last fall, and I've been driving her around a lot. I bought this car with that in mind. I thought she'd love the badge, as that garage is from her home town (I even lived in Farnham as a kid). She knew who Mike Hawthorn was by sight. She remembers the day he crashed and died along the Hog's Back btwn Farnham and Guildford...

The AC compressor on/off switch is a good idea. My Jeep is "powered' by an ancient tech OHV six. The design dates back to it's use in 1964 Ramblers. Updated sorta by
FI and tube style exhaust. It has such a switch. I rarely use it.
On the Jaguar I added a water valve to the heater line that was opposite eh one with the vacumn controlled on/off. I can completely isolate the heater matrix from
any hot water. and, as such as my AC isn't charged, I can use the controls for power venting. Neat in moderate weather.
Yes the power on switch on the console is kinda useless if one doesn't have little kids in the back seat. A time or two the windows failed to respond. Oh, oh, tripped that middle rocker. all is OK again. it would be a great AC compressor on/off switch. Whenever I get around to evacuating and charging my AC, I just may do it.
Errands in a bit then back to the Roto Hoe wheel project. Couple of glitches to overcome, but getting there.

If only that switch disabled just the rear windows....but why my own driver's window? I don't know why they did that. Probably to simplify wiring, the cheapos. My switch is now for the antenna and I use it every time I drive the car. Had to turn the switch 180degrees so that up is up and down is down. This was a very easy mod with the radio already out for other reasons.
Greg, this is the most telling of your photos and it tells a great deal. On its own the red leather with its texture and grain is Very Nice. In the same frame as the wood, well, You have a Lot of clash! Personally I would not keep the red. I think black would be better.
I'm not a big fan of cup holders. I have cup holders in Wart as flimsy, rinky-dink pull out thingies that we Never use. Yours look sturdy enough but they seem a bit out of proportion with the rest of the interior and they appear to be in the way of climate controls if they have cups in.
I'd like to be able to say I like both, but the more I look at the photo, the more I don't like either one.

Agreed. I will replace the red with black after Labour Day. And yes the cupholders are huge and boring. I shall try to add a chrome ring or something to Jaguarize them a bit. But for me in this case Function > Form so they stay. They're ringed with leather from the same piece used on the console. They're not really in the way of anything tbh.

I had to look at my own console to get the correct perspective, and I suppose cups probably won't get in the way of temp selection.
But it's YOUR car, Greg, and if you're happy with it, that's all that matters.

Maybe I could re-colour the red to black. Looks doable from what I have seen online.
That might be a good alternative to redoing the whole thing. As I said, I personally like the looks of it, but with that light dash, it clashes a little. I may have to follow suit when I start doing the interior on my S1.
. Let me know if you need some of mine, I got half a small hyde, 8-9 sq.ft. less the 13 x 13" I took out. Let me try to re-dye some first, see how it goes.

Might also be worth recovering the transmission shift area in the same material and dye it black or, if you can, the colour of your seats.
