Hood won't stay latched
 

I have seen many threads on hoods that won't open but mine is the opposite most of the time it's the passengers side but sometimes the drivers side will just pop up while I'm driving. Only once did both release at the same time unfortunately it happened on the interstate and the safety latch didn't catch either. luckily all it did was was kind of float up and I could pull off and stop slowly. Is there some trick to adjusting them? I have took the latches off and checked them but I see anything that looked broken or damaged.

The most common issue I have had is the pins wear, on the rear edge that clips into that sliding plate in the catch.

Jaguar here used to sell new pins (oversize) in the head area, and that fixed the issue.

I have also had success with adjusting them so they are "not so tight", which gives a bit of movemnent and the then finding the unused section of the pin, and turn it so that section is in contact with the sliding plate.

I have not seen any with the plate worn, which is odd, but then it is British.

Also check that the cables are NOT too tight, which would limit the forward travel of the sliding plate, and therefore reduce the "catching" effect of that plate.
