Identifying purpose of bank of relays

Hello Everyone, I've finally got my Jaguar well sorted as far as electrical gremlins. It runs wonderfully and I've driven it daily this year. As winter's approaching I'd like to turn an eye towards details. I need to know however, the purpose of a bank of relays infront of the battery on the right hand side inner fender on my 1987 XJ6. They have a convoluted mess of fine wires coming off them, and most appear to terminate into nothing. but not all of them are that way. Since I've already started this thread, and to conserve precious bandwidth, I may as well also ask about a large box, wrapped in electrical tape, with orange wires poking out roughly directly underneath the batteries location. Perhaps something to do with the injectors? I will gladly post pictures in the morning of the areas I'm asking about. I appreciate all the help you folks have given me in the endeavor of fixing the previous owners messes.

Here is some info, might help:

I'm not familiar with the newer XJ6 so I cant help you. Might find out what they're for by taking them out 1 by 1 and if anything broke? Not sure if this is a good idea.

I'll wait for the pics but that all sounds like owner add-on stuff to me.

You should have 3 relays and a red diode pack on the firewall, one relay on the radiator mounting panel, and one relay on the RH inner fender well forward, roughly across from the power steering pump

Cheers

Unless, it is a lump!! Then, only the shadow knows and he may have doubts!!!

I labled mine and created a schematic for them and tucked it away.

I see a man in purple leotards, with a multimeter. Not a good look.

Yes, it's a lump, and I've determined that most of the wires terminate in nowhere.

When I had my 87 XJ6 which was lumped with the Chevy 305, that tangle of wires was underneath a gray metal housing....and were for the headlights...
