Cool Leaking exhaust manifold xj6 s3 1985

Hi everyone - My first post! Seem to have an exhaust leak at the manifold to downpipe connection - looks as if one ear of the manifold is missing - Will it still seal with 3 studs instead of 4? Can I just replace the sealing rings?

You have an excellent chance of making that work. The risk is busting a stud or another ear. Care, corrosion blaster and perhaps heat.

If you are extremely lucky a PO used brass nuts and a lot of antiseize.

Do that on the "fix".

When I removed the DOHC from my car, those nuts came free sans angst.

If ypu look at the manifold you will see it has the 4 spots for studs however, the plate that holds downpipe up to manifold only has.two holes, one of my.studs got snapped off when.i redid.head, i simply bought new studs, and put them.in the other two spots, made it.a bit more difficult to get onto one of the nuts, but i managed... good luck!

all that is need is two studs, at opposite ends of each other, just don't overtighten them and use new brass or stainless steel nuts.
