Default lil help from series 2 owners

I’m mocking up an aftermarket oil
cooler and looking for space.

my hood is off and I’m wondering if I raise the center bar up 3/4” if the hood will clear when opening.

can someone with a series two look at how close their grill comes to that center support as it opens?

see pics below

Hi, Andy, I'm back.
I didn't recognize that structure in your photo, and it's not a wonder because mine was Removed at some time in the past, probably during Conversion. I've always wondered what was mounted on those brackets.

So I'm going out on a limb here and say it's not necessary as the car has operated just fine for 30 years without it.
In answer to your question though, I'm gonna guess the hood might Not close properly or this wouldn't have been removed.

But I put a cooler in the bottom valance grill and tied it with Zip-ties as there was absolutely No room for it anywhere else. It works Just Fine there.

I hope these are of help to you.

Just wondering!

1. Oil cooler or transmssion cooler ?

2. My car lives just fine sans an oil cooler.

3. I would guess that an oil cooler from an S3 might just fit.

4. My lump's radiator has fittings for the trans cooler. I plumbe it with an assortment of fittings and hose.

5. Teh LT1 engine in my car has provisons for an engine oil cooler. blanked off in most applications.

yes, very helpful, that’s funny that you didn’t have that brace. And I absolutely understand about space constraints because it is TIGHT down there.

oil cooler for engine. I was questioning the need for the oil cooler with modern oils but couldn’t bring myself to delete. More explanation in the thread about 6.0 liter swap

This is a picture of the clearance on my S3 with the bonnet closed. I would guess 3/4" between the bonnet pinch flange and that cross piece is generous, the two might touch. Hope this is of some help.

I went thru a lot of this when I was looking for space for my intercoolers on my1985 XJR6 conversion. first, Take the grille of the front of the hood and reinstall the hood. The horizontal bar that you are now looking to help with is now adjustable in many ways. You can also open and close the hood to see any collisions or rub thru's.

Andy,
I had put two coolers where you are mocking yours up. One was for oil and the other was for transmission. At the time I was using a brass radiator and the AC did not work. Also will add in I was trying to cool a Big Block Chevy with iron heads. The electric fans could not keep up in 90 degree weather. I switched out to an aluminum radiator. Radiator guy said "you are just dumping all the heat from the trans and the engine coolers back into the radiator. I moved the coolers to under the headlights in the wheel well and added under the bumper air scoops to direct air into them. Fans can now keep up with working AC on a hot day. I'll have to take pictures, looks like I did not cover that project in pictures.
