Loose Door Lock

The driver side key door lock is loose and I need to tighten it by taking off the interior door panel. I guess all there is to it is to pry the panel off, but I'd like confirmation if this is the proper way to get the interior door panel off.

Thanks,
Dave

Knowing the kind of car, specifically, would help, but there will be some screws that have to come out before you start prying.

Cheers

Hi Dave

I think your's is an 87 XJ6, right?
First you'll take off the armrest/map pocket. Gently prise back the chrome cover on the arm of the armrest, under it you'll find a pretty large screw, remove it. Then along the bottom side of the map pocket you'll find 3 or 4 small posi drive screws - take them out. The arm rest then has to be lifted up to get it out of some slots in the door.
Once that is off, start taking the door panel off the door by popping the clips out of the door. Be carefull not to pull them out of the cardboard backing. I use a cheap door panel tool to pry them out.
The rest should be straight forward.......

Now, if you're XJ6 is a VDP, the notes are close to the same, but there are a few differences in taking the panels off. Just advise, and we'll modify the instructions.....

all of the above plus you need to unscrew the door mirrors switch assembly, (2 screws), and pull the wiring about 2 inches away, and when everything is freed, you need to push the panel up to release it from the lip at the top.
