Maiden Voyage
 

I bought my 84 xj6 about two months ago, had it towed to a friends garage. things I have done to get it going:

1 installed a new fuel changeover solenoid and blew out entire fuel system
2 replaced window kill switch
3 3 hour venture on bleeding brakes with brake bleeder, I love the rear brake system, just hope I don't need new rotors...lol
4 Replaced accelerator cable
5 Still finding fuses to replace I think I will convert to blade fuse boxes

Now I finally took it on the road, what a smooth ride, went and filled up both tanks, need a right side fuel sending unit. But the big issue, I believe is I need a new master brake cylinder. I can pump brakes and it will stop but will go to the floor and sometimes stick there, very scarry when coming to a stop light. So i will not be on the road again until I have good brakes.
Anybody have a good master brake cylider?????

New master cylinders for these cars are not all that easily available. Have you thought of rebuilding it yourself ? You will possibly need to hone the bore a bit to get it smooth again. Here's a pic of an new LHD one on a UK supplier site, but not cheap at £92. I had to look around to find this one, and on a supplier site that tends to concentrate on the more modern stuff too !

Another mid 80's classic back on the road. Congrats! In addition to brakes make sure the ball joints are not shot. If they are original, chances are the rubber boots are cracked. This may have been the single best repair I made to my 86 when it came out of 15 yrs in a barn. The handling and steering went from bad to outstanding.

On a side note, we may be moving to Ft Mill next summer. Have family down there. If so, we can compare Jag notes.

Sneal, I am putting it up on a lift this weekend to check out all suspension parts. Found a master cylinder for 89.00 so it wasn't to bad. When it was on the road it drove smoothly so I am hoping that it doesn't need to much, but I am prepared to do it right if it does. I am having the same problem with my windows. I jumped the switch with no success. Where else my I look? I spoke with a repair shop, they suggested looking for a ground. Any thoughts

Fred, can you be a bit more specific? What problems are you having with the windows?
