My project XJ12 / 350
Just thought I'd share with you my ongoing pleasure (read: usually stress) with my new Jag.
I bought a 77 XJ12 which has a Chevy 350 lump in it for $1000. Figured it was a project car but was actually running to my surprise.
The day I got it, she overheated. Checked everything and saw the alternator wasn't rotating, so it snapped the fan belt thus having no cooling! Also has a brake booster leak which is my next mission, but atleast the brakes work.
So far in a month of ownership I've driven her halfway around the block. New alternator, fan belt, exhaust manifold (had a small leak), spark plugs, stuff like that.
I'm more than happy to work on her as my daily ride is a motorcycle in sunny San Diego, but I'm so eager to cruise around in my Jag! Been having starting issues which is probably a combo of dead battery, spark, dirty carb (cleaned it just in case). Thought it was a fuel issue as the electric pump (yes, on a carb.. previous owner put it in) wasn't whirring at one point but I believe that to just be down to a battery issue.
So tomorrow I shall be checking out the sparks/coil, and hopefully hearing her purr/roar once again.
Pluses are it looks friggen bad *** even just sitting there. Has a nice leather interior and even a fancy stereo system. All that matters is whats under the hood to me, but we're getting there (on a student budget!)!
I'll upload some pictures real soon. Glad to be a Jag owner.
