Nardi or Momo steering wheel?
 

I've narrowed down my replacement steering wheel to a

NARDI ND CLASSIC 360MM WOOD - 5061.36.2000

Either choice is first class. The leather will be warmer in the Canadian weather.

To see how a Nardi would look in the car, here's a pic of one installed on my previous XJ6.

Make sure to get the correct hub, though. Some put the wheel too close to the driver.

Rob, I agree, I really want a wooden wheel. Think I'll end up with the Nardi.

Thank for the picture Doug. The Nardi it will be. By the way, I love the high standard of your red XJ6. Can you advise on which hub you used? I've heard that there seems to be a "deep" and a "shallow" one. The standard wheel is already too close and my column adjustment does not work (in or out) as it seems to be seized solid, so I'm thinking the shallow one but cannot find a part number anywhere. I'll post a seperate thread on un-seizing the column and see if I can get some advice on that front. Ian

I bought my Nardi used, with hub. It must've been the 'deep' hub as the wheel ended up to close to the driver too far away from the column stalks. No biggie, but annoying….for me, at least.

I would go with 'shallow' if I was ordering new parts

I have one of those but in black leather. A very comfortable steering wheel and not as large as the original XJ wheel.

recently I went with a Momo Italy 15" wood wheel because the spokes are slanted down towards 8 and 4 o-clock and the Nardi's are slanted up towards 10 and 2 o'clock, blocking the gauges' line of sight.

I have 4 steering wheels for my XJ. Can never make up my mind which is best, they are all good except the original because it is so huge.

Yep the wheel is smaller than stock but I could see the gauges clearly.

What adapter hub did you use on the Nardi?

Ian, I don't have a Nardi, I have 2 Momo, a 1989 XJ-S (used in the V12 Series 3), and the original steering wheel.

with the Momos I also have the long hubs, I did not know there was a short hub, first time I hear about it.

I had been thinking of sacrificing one hub and cutting off 1/2" inch from the rear but I don't think it will make any difference because if you cut the length of the hub and then push the steering wheel further into the spline, the spline will come off at the front of the hub.

I have read that others have cut the center hub from the original steering wheel and grafted it to their Nardi or Momo. But I've never tried that.

Moto-Lita Eagle 3 (14") in a XJ6 Series 1 restomod (in process) with all-new dash and instruments. Mounted to a chrome IDIDIT column. Instruments can be easily seen.

I have exactly the same Nardi in my Series III V12. Warm in winter, cool in the summer...

I've got an old Nardi I'm looking forward to putting in my XJC at some point after all the major surgery is done, no idea how it fits though. It did come with some kind of hub thing and it has a Jag logo in the center so hoping it will mount up. Anyone got any tips on replacing the wheel? i'm about to remove the steering column of that car so good time to explore how it goes together again. thanks in advance for any info

Oliver it is very simple, first park the car with the front wheels straight ahead. remove the horn cover by removing screws from behind.

get a long socket to fit the nut and loosen it
2/3 of the way.

push the steering wheel from behind as close to the center as possible, maybe smacking it a little with the palm of your hands until it snaps off if too tight.
Since the nut is still threaded, it won't hit you in the face if it comes off too fast.

Once loosened, remove the nut and washer if any, and pull it off the splined shaft. Install the other steering wheel and tighten rhe shaft nut.
