Need a 1971 XJ steering rack hose seal
 

I need to find a hose seal for the steering rack of a 1971 XJ, the one I need is part number 11988, it fits under the low pressure hose from the PS pump. It has a 37 degree flared end and a male fitting on the bottom. There are two sizes, and the later S3 racks are smaller.

The largest one in the photo is from a S3, the S1 looks like it but has a larger bottom male portion.

Can anyone help?

I have one Roger, and you can have it free. I doesn't want to come out though. I'll keep trying.

According to the Service Manual, you have to tap threads on the inside and use a bolt/washer and nut to pull it out.

I got it out using your method, but I don't think it's much good. The surface is damaged by over tightening. I can a pic, but I think you know what I mean.

I sent you a Private Message about sending it to me. Need it for sample of the dimensions to have a couple made up.

Thanks to Rob Laughton, I know the OD of the bottom portion of the S1 supply hose seal = .521 inch
This is compared to the S3 seal that is only .464 in OD and has to be "glued" in place to be used.

Will try the used one from Rob tomorrow to see if there is enough of the 37 degree top cone left to seal.
If not I will have a couple made up at a local machine shop.

PS I tried the seal from Rob but the top portion with 37 degree cone was worn too much for the pipe to seal.
Will have a couple made up at a local shop (one for spare).

Success, I took the seal Rob gave me to a local machine shop. He chucked it up in a lathe and turned the top down to be like new. I took the metal hose for the PS supply to
a local Hoseman for a new flare end and fitting. All is installed now and no initial leaks that happend each prior time.. will check again tomorrow after it cools down and maybe tighten the fitting some more or at least check it.

Glad that horrible problem is "hopefully" resolved.

Still leaking.. found a article about inserting a aluminum screw finishing trim piece in the hole and tightening.. will try that as a last resort. Their example shows one inserted into a master cylinder... If this works I will not have to "convert/upgrade" to a S3 steering rack and change the lower steering shaft and hoses.

A pluming thing. I see them as "seats" rather than "seals". I woner if my little Atlas lathe would be up to the job... but, more likely, me not so much!!
