"New" 84 XJ6 parts car / engine ID help needed

Hi everyone,
I finally got my new "field find" parts car home and am trying to solve some new mysteries I discovered. I think it has had a replacement door VIN sticker since the # on it is missing one digit ( compared to the windshield plate ) as well as giving the trim as HDD = "Sage" or not a valid code. I posted earlier in the thread below about the interior difference, I think it's Saville Grey ( will be updating that one with more pictures tomorrow ). After being left in a field for years the floor pans are toast as well as the door tops ( hadn't seen that before ) so I'm just going to use it for the suspension parts mainly. The new mystery is the engine / head combo with no air injection ports along with the single shaft metal fan / water pump combo. It also has a tiny fuel injection rail and different coil wiring too. What I would like to know is what year the engine / head / fuel rail / ignition setup might be from ? Would like to know what size valves etc it might have before going to the trouble to pull it. I'm not even going to try to budge the crank until pulling plugs and letting it soak with kroil or the old acetone+ATF trick for awhile. First up will be draining what smells like very old gas from the tanks & flushing the whole system. If all goes well I do plan to see if it will run just so I know what still works in case I need it. I think I know the main reason it got parked, after digging the right side out ( really, it had sank ), I found the right outer half shaft U-joint clunking like all the pins are gone ! Hopefully this means the engine is still as least good enough to rebuild.
One final note the car appears to be built for the US market but at least one of the PO's was French & spent some time in Canada. Could this be the source of the no air injection head ? Also I know it had the air system at some point as there is clear scorch marks on the inside of the bonnet where the back flow valve or hose broke letting exhaust gas out.

It's an early Series 3 probably 1980-82. The fuel rail made of small section piping gave a load of trouble, (I know, I had a 1980 !!), and was replaced with one made of square section tubing.
The engine blocks on these cars are also seriously deficient as they suffer from cracking of the iron casting between the bores, (they have cylinder liners that don't crack). The liners are there to cover machined coolant passages across the block, a stupid cobble. Once this cracking is present the car will suffer continual head gasket failures until the cracking is dealt with by insertion of lipped liners, (or the car is lumped with a V8). The blocks were altered around 1982 to eliminate cracking by machining vertical slots between the bores, and liners no longer inserted. These are called "slotted blocks". This cured the cracking but head gaskets normally need replacing at around 85-95k miles. All these problems and cobbles are a result of Jaguar keeping the original block and crank dimensions as laid down in 1948 for the original 3.4 litre engine. Eventually they developed the all-alloy AJ6 and AJ16 engines. The AJ16 is especially bullet-proof. All of this disappeared when the V8 came in under Ford

Yeah, the CAR is an '84 .......but the engine? I dunno.

Early Series III cars had that style fan clutch and fuel rail.....as did the very last of the Series II cars with fuel injection.

Offhand the coil wiring looks like the older "OPUS" ignition system as used on Series II cars and a few very early non-USA Series IIIs

Also, early Series III cars for the USA did not have air injection.....but an '84 Should have it.

I don't have any info on head and block numbers, sorry

Cheers
