New Fuel Tank Question
 

Does anyone have any experience buying new fuel tanks for their XJ6s? Specifically, what do they come with? I am ordering a new driver side tank (will order passenger side down the road) because upon inspecting my stock tank, the liner flaking along with a couple holes near the bottom make it not worth fixing. I am likely getting one from Rock Auto, as i can order it with shipping for about $320. The brand on this particular one is Spectra. It says included is the lock ring for the sending unit, but does that mean the sending unit gasket is there as well? Does it come with a drain plug? What about the internal plumbing for the fuel lines/pickup? Anyone have a part number for the filler cap to body gasket (flat gasket, not the o-ring)? That part doesn't concern me too much because making one would be simple. Jaguar in question is a '73 S1. Thanks!

I just replaced a series 3 tank with s spectra from RockAuto. It came with everythng needed, new locking ring & locking ring gaskit, filler cap o-ring and drain plug.. The drain plug is in the same place but it's a different design. The EO jag drain plug is a 2 peice setup with a larger cap threaded into the tank and then a drain in the cap. The spectra tanks doesn't have the brass cap, just a small drain plug. The EO design had the cap so the in-tank prefilter screen could be changed. The Spectra has no in-tank filter screen. The pickup is also just a open tube end. The spectra tank isnt an exact replica but it works well enough. These days...gas is much cleaner than it was in the 70's so an in tank screen isnt as necessary.

So it sounds like the tank is ready to install, hook up lines and that's it. Sound about right? I was hoping it cam with everything because my internal plumbing is pretty corroded on the tank i took out. Sounds like you answered all my questions, i appreciate it! I think I'll be ordering one tonight. Seeing my tank and all the crap inside explains why my car was acting up, and $320 is an awesome price to get this thing back on the road.

The early tanks had the fuel sender in the rear wheel well...later tanks have sender in the rear - through the tail light area.

Fuel senders are different and the wires would need to be moved/lengthened to use the later tanks. Plus the fuel line sizes are larger with the later tanks.

Did not know the early tanks were available to purchase from Spectra? Did not look but wanted you to know the differences ahead of a ordering mistake....

Thanks for the heads up. I thought I had seen a tank with the sending unit in the rear, but wasn't sure if it was just the weird angle. The part number on this is JA1F, which shows it fits the earlier S1/S2. Alternatively, the S3 has a part number of JA1B for the same side tank. On that note, Rock Auto and Auto Parts Warehouse (I'm sure others as well) both show them in stock.

Bought a new tank on Amazon. Paid the same as I would have with RockAuto for the same tank, but got two day shipping with Prime (as opposed to 7-10 days). Got it installed yesterday and it fired right up! Now onto syncing the carbs and getting all the little things figured out!
