New Sun Shade

Here in the Boise area it gets pretty hot during the summer. I have been looking for some sort of cover or screen that I can get for when I park in the sun. Besides the heat, I want to protect the leather as much as possible. I didn't want to do the window shades or a full cover. I came across this site and decided to give it a shot

SmartCover.com

It covers down to the bottom of the windows. It has these weights that you throw over the car and it just settles over the car. I've used it a couple times already and it is amazing how much heat it cuts out. It's just as good as parking under a cover or in the garage.

The only thing I don't like is to get it off, they say to slide it across the top until the weights are 1/2 way on the roof and then grab them. I don't care to slide it over a possibly dirty roof so I just walk around to the passenger side and place the weights 1/2 way on the roof, walk back around and pick them up.

The website looks kind of sketchy, but I took a took a chance and they delivered in a couple days.

Just thought I'd share in case someone else might be interested.

Great find..... I'd been looking for something like this.

I have this.... Covercraft Qwik Cover Interior Covers which works great for my XJS convertible but was looking for something "quick" for my XJ12C. Looks like you helped me find it !

One more thing that I didn't like is, the suction cups used to keep it down in the wind have metal rings attached to them for some reason. These tend to whack against the paint when you throw it. I don't know what they are for. You will want to remove them before using it.

I had them on a boat cover a few years ago, they are to put your finger through to pull the suction cup off. I removed them as they were marking the gell coat.

I must admit I paid more attention to the ladies in the video.

However, the product does seem attractive.

Ever see how nurses or their aids change bedding the patient in bed.
Done by halves!!!

Were I to use this product, I would roll it or fold it in thin folds across it's smaller dimension. lay the folded unit on the bonnet or boot and unfold or unwrap it up he glass, across the roof and down.

It is a modified way of how tents are dealt with, especialy the really big and heavy ones.

Actually they aren't. The instructions specifically say to use the little tabs on the cups themselves. That's why I don't understand their purpose.

Ok, maybe to stop the cover popping off them if it gets windy.

I ordered one of these and have been playing with it over the weekend. Conclusion is that its very easy to deploy, actually quite fun. It also does keep the heat down significantly inside the car. Better than any windshield device because of course its covering all of the windows plus it seems to keep the roof cooler also.

The only issue I could see would be if the car was really dirty..... retrieving it off the roof of the car is easiest if you drag it across, and I guess it could be possible to scratch. Just another excuse to keep the car clean !

Thank you, Sarc, I was thinking the same things.
As my car is BLACK she gets pretty hot sitting in the sun, even with the windshield thingy. I thought it would keep the cabin cooler by shading that BLACK roof too, but getting the thing OFF is my concern.

The clear coat is very soft, and although I keep the car clean, there's always a bit of dust from the environment to contend with. Is the underside soft or is it like a plastic tarp?

Its pretty soft. To me it feels similar to the material that umbrellas are made out of.

ya, for a dirty car (or concerned with scratching), just walk around to the passenger side and place the weights up onto the roof, then walk back around and pick them up. No sliding.

After seeing SARC's in action, I ordered two, one for each VDP. If we find them as helpful as it sounds, I'll order two more.

Bought one and love it - I have a very strong desire for a cool car - limo tint on rear window already 32% on rear 16% on front with a sunstrip on windshield, always use sun visors and park in the shade.

This product is great. Easy to use, keeps the lookeyloos from peering inside, and definitely keeps the car significantly cooler, even with tinted windows in the warm central texas heat.

103 raw/110 heat index basically all week here in TX - much cooler with the Smart Cover. Well worth the money.

Yup! I ordered one too.
