Original Radio Make and Model '74 XJ6 Series II
 

What is the make and model of the radio which came standard with the 1974 XJ6 Series II SWB? I can't seem to find this information anywhere.

I would like to get one for mine.

I'm not an authority but in that era I'm pretty sure that Jaguar used a variety of radios depending on market....often installed at Port of Entry. I don't think there was a single, standard make/model.

The car was assembled in Cape Town, South Africa. So if anyone knows what radio the South African cars came with, I'd very much appreciate it. :)

As chance would have it I was working on the HVAC system today so I had the stereo out.

This was fitted to my US Spec 76 XJ12C. Its an AM/FM radio and 8 track player.

I googled the model number and there were a few hits. This is certainly period correct for your car, even if not perfectly market correct.

Hey all. Just a quick update. By luck, while going through the car's papers I found the instruction booklet for the rado. :)

It is a National Panasonic CR 565 EN.

Let's hope I can find one somewhere.

Panasonic made a lot of different radios over a lot of years. I did a quick google, just for the fun.


But, have you considered a diagnosis and fix of yours? Do radio shops still exist, anywhere?


At one time, I think there were shops that "modernized" old radios.
Outwards no change. Inside, up to date.


I've a couple of old Jaguar radios on my shelf, But, probably about ten years younger than yours.

There is a place in New Jersey that would upgrade your original radio to modern standards.
Stuff like AUX port, USB and WIFI.
I happened to come across them while searching the internet to get the radio code for a Mercedes I owned with a no start condition. They were very helpful and was able to give me the radio code. Car started and sold.

In the UK there is a company that I used a few years ago that revive and modify old radios. They did a good job of reviving my old Motorola. They advertise themselves in Jaguar Enthusiast magazine. They are "Vintage Wireless" are based in Sale near Manchester and have fax and 'phone number 01619730438. UK access code is 44. They have a stock of classic radios.
