Problem with Power Windos!

Hi, I have a 1986 XJ6 that I recently purchased and it came with a good size bundle of electrical issues of which I've been able to fix all but a problem with my LR power window!

Here is what I've done so far, when I first got the car I think only one of the windows worked so I went to the salvage yard and got some used window switches (should've just cleaned them) and was able to get 2 more windows and the moon roof working but as stated the LR window still didnt work. I've swapped known good switches with the switch for the LR window and nothing. Next I checked for power coming in and going out of the LR switch while being operated and there is power, next I checked the circuit breakers by the Right side fuse panel and swapped them and no difference. Finally I pulled off the LR door panel and supplied power to the motor and it does work, but I get no voltage on the wires that go to the motor when the switch is applied!! I dont have a wiring diagram to trace these wires back, but was wondering if there is a fuse or a known problem with a connector for these window switches?

oh and I pulled off the center console and the ground connections by the shifter assembly base look ok as well.

Any help appreciated,

If you have power in and out of the switch and the motor works with a separate supply, then I would say the problem is down to the wiring from the switch to the motor. Unless there is a relay that may be defective, try a new wire from the switch to the motor to see if that works.

Perhaps someone with a circuit diagram may be able to narrow it down further for you.

Hope this helps,

I agree with Jim. Sounds like you'll have to trace out a wiring fault.

Go to the "How To" thread at the top of this section and open the "S57 Wiring Guide Ser III" for some good schematics. You'll need section 20.1

Note that if you keep scrolling down you'll end up in the "XJS Wiring Guide" ....which would confuse the issue! The Ser III guide ends at about page 57

Cheers
