Problem with Red Diode relay

Hi Jag lovers! I have a 1986 XJ6 Sovereign. Love it. My red diode relay is damaged. I need to replace a diode inside. Anyone knows what size (resistance) diode goes inside the red relay? I noticed there are 4 diodes, two seems to be the same size and the others are different. . These red diode relay are hard to find and are expensive so O would like to fix it instead of buying a one. Please feel free to share your wisdom

Hi Jean,

I may have one. I'm near you in St Catharines.

I'm not sure which elay you need. Where is it located? What does it control?

Rob

Perfect/ Source for a good one nearby!!! Better than seeking to fix a relay!!!

Not an elecrtic genius byt far. I think any small value dide would do just fine. t

The diode pack contains three blocking diodes and a resistor. The diodes are 1N4001 and are very cheap from component suppliers. You can also use 1N4002 1N4003…1N4007 as alternatives as the only difference is maximum voltage rating. 1N4001 is rated at 50V up to 1N4007 rated at 1000V

The resistor is 2.7 Ohms.

We should avoid using the word relay when referring to this diode pack…it just happens to be mounted in a relay-shaped package.

Hi Jean Pierre,

I assume you are referring to the red 'Pektron' starter relay which is labelled perhaps confusingly according to Andy T as such by the Jaguar Factory Parts Catalogue? <Part DAC1861>

If Andy T is right about the guts of this then that is very helpful as those diode / relay packs are not easy to find in good condition now.

Cheers,

Nigel

Hi
I have looked at the broken one and was able to find the problem, is was on the weld on the small board. I simply put some on the joint and it is working fine.
thanks
