Question about octane

I bought an 80' Jaguar XJ6 recently and was wondering if by any chance anyone knows what's the best octane to use on this car 87, 89, 91 or above? Anyone ever tried using any of the lower grades and/or does it really make a difference?

RE: Question about octane

I've always run the lowest grade in mine. They are low compressiona and run just fine on any old panther piss you throw in there. The higher fuels are cleaner.

RE: Question about octane

Reason why I ask, is just because in the handbook it says to use 91 (premium).. but if it has low compression then I guess there is no reason to use it or need for it. But I guess I'll try out 87& see what happens, I just don'twant to mess anything up in the engine.

RE: Question about octane

87 is fine, theres no need for the higher octanes, it'll run great.
