Those were the days, AND the cars, NOT a computer, Injector, or OBD, in sight, and they rarely left you stranded, broke down, hell yes, but fixable with wire, tape, BFH, and vocabulary.

10.30 pm , reversed the A170 up the drive to load our wares and some sort of transmission failure.FFS this is not a good week. It is just whiring when I select gears. Back to plan B with the Jeep.(and it's intermitent problem) It has been a bad car week, a trip to see the MIL (and mother from hell)...no joke. Just ask "Her indoors" But we turned it into trip we could enjoy either side of the visit to her. Nothing has gone to plan but we will sure as hell make sure we enjoy getting there and back, fingers crossd the Jeep does it's job without a failure. |

Great to catch up with Jim & Nina (Daf11e) last night for dinner. Thanks for wonderful evening. Jeep has been flawless for the 2200km so far, I bought set of front pads for it yesterday for insurance since we had 200 km of winding roads with steep decents at the start of today's drive. Turned out they were not needed but a pad change on the side of the road or a country garage would not have been a big issue.(getting the pads may have been if needed) Turns out having the Jeep worked in our favour, plenty of antuque shops along the way. Seats are folded down and back is near full. I ordered the complete front brake kit and boots for the steering rack last night, so the parts for the jag should be waiting at home when we get there tomorrow afternoon. Maybe next time we get to take the car of choice. |

A170 towed off to the transmission shop yesterday so they can check it out Monday. Guy there thinks it is probably a broken CV or axle and not the transmission.

Then the brake test down th drive, once down there is enough with no pedal. Man, those calipers are hard to split. Over the years I've tried rebuilding 'em a few times. Seems like I always needed new pistons and/or the bores were too far gone....after struggling to get the pistons removed in the first place. Just my luck, I guess, in attempting the task on particularly rough examples. Anyhow, I threw in the towel and now just buy rebuilts off-the-shelf. Cheers DD |
1. It has been a long time since I put the rear seat down in my Jeep; A bit fiddly. head rest removal, package area roll removal , etc. But once done., Lots pf space I've used it in that mode to brig home two dish washers, one at a time at different times. And, "Little Red". My antique Troybilt Chipper/shredder.
2. Aye, On two of my brake jobs, the calipers were suspect. I bought "loaded" calipers. One set for the Jaguar rear, and back a way for my F150 4x4. 3. Aye, my dear departed was addicted to garage sales. Our critters must have hauling capacity. I've been know to bring back some treasures as well. Three or four saws!!! Even an engine at one time!!! Cheers DD Some started off pretty ugly, especially the ones from the fire in my IRS. I have a go at rebuilding anything before I part with cash to replace it, unless it is a steering component, brake hose etc. There would be no hesitation in buying new calipers if I put them back on the car and something wasn't right. Actually, the replacement "loaded" calipers for most if not all critters are actually rebuilds!!!
Just noted Jeep is reviving the Gladiator. A pickup truck. The Grand Cherokee plat form. I get it I've contemplated mine as a view it's side. Not that I would get out the Sawzall??? Another with a crunched top? Trees are about crunching the tops of various critters. Carli |
