Jack up car on stands.
Disconnect central prop shaft at the differential
disconnect shock absorbers from rear end at the top
disconnect rear brake fluid line
disconnect hand brake lever at the rear end
disconnect rear end at each inner fender area

Lower rear end using a good jack

You forgot the exhaust that goes through the IRS! Plus, the car needs to be at least 18 inches off the ground for the IRS
to come out easily....means proper support of the car and proper stops for the front tires to keep it from moving.

What looks like just a disc change normally ends up with a load of repairs to the other parts on that subframe, so getting it out off the car really is better, unless work was recently done, and you're having to make some sort of rectification.

Terrible place to have to do work !

Having this job done at the moment.

Initially it was the handbrake not working.

Now it has become:-
Loads and loads of oil everywhere so differential stub axle seals and bearings.
Because of amount of oil, new disc pads required as well as new rotors.
Caliper overhaul, original pistons chrome deteriorated and slight leak.
New brake hose.
Only ONE disc pad remained in place on the handbrake, overhaul.
Inner right hand drive shaft bearings.
Pivot arm on RH suspension arm - new bearings.
Upper and lower shocker bushes absolutely shot - replace.
A previous owner has mixed and matched rear shock absorbers?

Am now very glad I did not attempt to do this job at home and got a Jaguar expert who really cares for these cars to do the job.

I might add that I am 72 years of age and suffer from spinal stenosis and degenerative disc disease so I would have been suffering for months.

Hopefully will get it back next week.

I put the front on ramps and the rear on stands, dropped the IRS and rolled it out out the side....Then the fun begins.
