rear speaker relocation
 

Has anyone here moved or just added speakers to the area behind the back seat by the glass? I have the glass out and now is the opportune time to do this kind of job, Also what size speaker should i use if any???

Upon inspection, I noticed in the rear deck of my '82 there looks like two (apr 10" dia) flat, circular panels stamped in the steel. If this wasn't designed for speaker location, it would be perfect. Looks to me like 6x9's or even 8" subs would mount well back there. I'd love to hear what guys have done.

Well i went ahead and added speakers back in that deck, there is some sort of mounting point in there that i didnt want to mess with so i decided on 6.25" speakers and they fit great, sound is amazing in comparison!

That paintwork looks very doggy. I assume that is the next job after the speakers !

I actually just spray painted the shelf black in the speaker area itself as its covered by the board, but the glass was out to fix rust at bottom of windows, so that paint is fixed!!

Please post pics when you have the area covered back up. Did those speakers replace the 2 rear door speakers or did you add them to the mix and now have 6 speakers? Can you explain how the sound improved? Fuller, deeper, something else?

I will take some pics of the board reinstalled recovered with headliner material so the sound comes through, right before i reinstall the glass, i dont want to install it yet and get it all messed up whilst i am still priming and sanding, etc.

I actually fed these two speakers from the back two that are now disconnected, the sounds is much fuller, bass is deeper, I can now listen to my queen albums without all the distortion.. These are just cheapo speakers to see if it was going to sound better, After i am done spending money on the body and paint, i will probably change them out to something better and maybe add a small amp, But that's a ways down the road.
