Rims - 1960s - 1980s...
 

I've spent some of the last week cleaning up around the shop... I removed about 120 tires from rims in the past couple of weeks, and unloading some of the rims today I thought it may be fun to take some comparison photos. Sorry for the photos of dirty rims and wheel centers.. These have been sitting in the shop for a while...
Some interesting notes..
In the 60s, the rim width was pretty narrow, and the center caps were huge... As time moved on, the rims got wider and the center caps got small....
The photos show the rims from Latest to Earliest..
1 - Starfish - came on XJS
2 - Lattice - came on XJS
3- Pepperpot - Came on Series 3 XJ (Not in US)
4 - Kent - Came on Series 3 XJ in US, and early XJS
5 - Chromed Pressed Steel - Used on Series 1 & 2 XJ
6 - Painted Steel - Smaller sedans - these were on a 3.4S
7 - Painted Steel - Large Sedans - these were on a Daimler Sovereign (Jaguar 420)

I know there were a few others not shown, and probably more applications than I'm listing..
Just a quick example of different rims and what they are called...

my favorites are the Teardrops which Ford copied for Mercury. The S type steel rims were used in all Jaguar models without wire wheels, in both 14 and 15 inch.

My favorite is the lattice. Oh, my car has a nice set!!! Bias, oh yeah....

Mine have always been the chrome turbos.
It's a shame that they are nearly impossible to source in good condition here in the UK and hideously expensive to have rechromed.
Be great to find someone to reproduce them in a 16" version, maybe chromed alloy.
