Rubber Trim Piece Wanted
 

Good day fellow enthusiasts! My 1982 XJ6 (who is named Walter) needs the rubber trim piece that rests against the driver door window. It is on the out side of the car and is broken. I took my car through an Automatic car wash, and for a day I heard water sloshing, I assume it was all in that door. Are those rubber trim pieces easily available?

Hi Walter,

I can help you with the seal if you are still looking. The sloshing is something you should attend to, that means that the drain holes at the base of the door are plugged up. That's the main cause for Series III's rusting out the bottom of the doors.

All the water is drained out. Is that what it is called, the seal? It is between the chrome and the outside glass. How much is 1 and how difficult are they to install?

difficult enough that I suggest you also order the Factory Service Manual CD, to learn the step by step procedures in dismantling the inner door panel, the removal of chrome moldings, etc.
If you're going to keep the car, the manual is a great investment.

Greetings Walter,

Jaguar calls that iteman outer waist seal, since that it the "waistline " of the car. It is still available as part # BD46440/1, current list is $38.50. I have a new one in stock in a sealed bagthat I ordered for a customer in 1992, you can buy it for $15.00 plus $5.00 shipping to any U.S. address.

These are a littly fiddly to replace, but I have always been able to fit them with the window lowered, and no components removed. The back of the rubber seal has a rib running the length of it, which has to snap into a groove inside the outer chrome finisher. If you use a little slippery (spray silicone, Armor All, Tire Wett) and a small screw driver, you can seat the seal properly and you're done.

The point I was making about the "slosh" is that, even when the waist seal is intact, the door is not designed to be waterproof. That's whyclear drain holes are important, and why Jaguar built the cars with sheet plastic inside the doors to prevent the backside of the door trim panels from getting wet.

Jagtech thank you very much Id like that rubber waistline piece. can i send you pay pal or a check? I can get a bank check and send it to you also. My job is moving me down to Tempe AZ so rain wont be much of an issue but it still would be nice to use a carwash!! I will wait with the unexpected cost of moving has put me a little behind on "friviolious" spending. If I can still operate safely I can wait on the trim, but if I decide to get it that is a wonderful deal. Thank you.

Jose I did pick up the paper version but so far I have found this forum better than the factory manual! ;o)
