S3 XJ6 exhaust system suppliers in North America?
Hi Everyone,
Wondering where to get a stainless system (everything aft of the downpipe) in Canada or the USA. I'd prefer something a bit growlier than original, and more torque wouldn't hurt if that's possible. Though I'll buy original spec if I have to.
I have no experience with non-stock exhaust so please tell me if there's something I should know.
Thanks everyone,

hi,
the XJ cars were never growlers, the last growling exhaust came with the original 3.8 'S' type (1963-1968), then after the 'S' type came the 420 with the 4.2 engine and no more growl. The 4.2 engine seems to be very quiet unless you totally remove the silencers.
Bell Exhausts Ltd. UK makes excellent quality stainless exhaust systems for Jaguar, I ordered one for my '65 S type from SNG Barrat USA store back in 2005. You might check to see if they still carry Bell Exhausts.
also try Motorcars Ltd. in Texas for stock exhaust mild-steel parts like the European 'Y' pipe (without the cat), and the over-the-axle pipes (which originally came in stainless from the Jaguar factory). The XJ-6 will pass inspections even with the European 'Y' pipe replacing the original.
Below is a picture of the Bell Exhaust I got from SNG Barrat for my S type:
Remember to use Band clamps and exhaust Sealer at every point; Jaguar designed their exhaust systems to be removable for servicing the car; Muffler shop "U" clamps distort/crimp the unions making the parts impossible to separate later, and no welding anything either, Jaguar never welded their exhaust system parts.
For my XJ-6, I found 1" wide stainless steel Band clamps from a Rolls Royce / Jaguar parts supplier in Michigan, I forget their name, and for my S type I found them in a racing parts online store.

what I did to my XJ-6 was to send the new European "Y" pipe and the original over-the-axle pipes to a company called "Jet-Hot Coatings", where they were coated with their "Sterling" ceramic+silver coating;
it looks almost like "chrome" but not quite; What it does is to reduce the exhaust parts temperature and improve the exhaust flow and it also imparts a certain "growl" to the exhaust sound as compared to stock. However this is not very noticeable, though you might notice a slight difference in the sound.
Jet-Hot coats jet engine parts, racing car parts, trucking industry, and hot-rod car parts. It is expensive but it protects the parts from rusting prematurely as the "Y" pipe normally does.
Jet-Hot Ceramic Coatings
Glad to be of help.

on a related question, do you know why the exhaust Sealer "Firegum" is not sold in the USA?, Jaguar Service Manuals mention this product whenever exhaust parts are assembled.
but the only sealer I could find was one made by Permatex.
Thanks.

Hmm. Not something we supply here or in the UK I'm afraid. I see it for sale on eBay pretty cheap, shipped from the UK only however.. Can't imagine it's much different to any other exhaust paste..

1. Are you saying the band clamps are in the "SS Exhaust Fit Kit" BSSFK009?
2. Can you tell me whether the Bell system BSSJR028 fits up to either type of front pipe (with or without cat)? My 1986 XJ6 VIN blahblah450375 has the cat but that may change down the road. I would order the system without a front pipe at this time.
3. Would you like me to order this through your website or are we going to do something here.
Ok, three questions.
Thanks,

BSSFK009 is correct as mentioned yes.
If you have catalysts the Bell system will need to be ordered along with standard (non cat) front pipes. You would need to do away with your cats and drill a hole in the front pipes for your lamba sensor.
Probably best if you give me a call to discuss further and/or order

It looks like this is what I have to do. Do you know whether the rear units are silencers/mufflers or resonators? I'm thinking of removing the front ones and keeping the back ones, but if they're resonators it might sound bad.
