Search for My Long Lost XJ6 S1
Hi Everyone
I am on the search for a cherished 1972 XJ6 S1 that I used to own with my dad. Sadly due to some personal issues the car was sold and I have been unable to track it down again. I am looking for any advice on how to go about searching for the car and...fingers crossed...possibly purchase it again!
I am located in Canberra Australia, the car was cream with a red interior. The steering wheel had been replaced with a wooden rim and brushed aluminium spoke aftermarket item. The original radio had been replaced with an aftermarket cd player and 6x9 speakers in the rear parcel shelf. Originally it had been a 2.8lt engine, we had replaced it with an engine from a 4.2 daimler. The registration was ACT ergo YXJ 072 (pretty sure this was it, its been a few years since I have seen it and the memory is not great!)
If anyone would be able to help with any information it would be greatly appreciated. I believe the vehicle should still be in the ACT as it was sold to someone here.
Looking forward to any information, if you have any question's just ask I am more than happy to help. Any lead would be great.
Thanks heaps

Do you have any documentation with the car's VIN? I would run a Carfax on it. Often times it will tell you when and where the vehicle was last inspected / registered.
Once you have the city nailed down, as previously suggested, hit up the local Jaguar club. I would also check with any Jaguar mechanics in the area.
Good luck, and keep us posted!
Afterthought: Do you have the buyer's contact info? That would also be a decent place to start. They might still have it!

thanks for the advice. My next step is to contact the jaguar club in canberra. sadly we don't have carfacts in australia so I can run a check like that. does anyone know how to check if a registration number is still active in australia. the only thing I can think of is a REVS check but that doesn't supply that kind of information.
its a real shame but the car was sold without my knowing and I am not sure of the owner...thanks for the ideas though. I will keep everyone updated.
Fingers crossed for a good result

Chris,
Some of the larger tyre and parts suppliers websites in the UK have a facility to enter a registration number and they then spit out the vehicle details in confirmation with appropriate their parts stock. This only works if a vehicle is still registered with DVLA (our Licensing Authority) and has not been scrapped.
Do you have anything similar in Australia? If so, it would at least be a way of finding out if the XJ6 is still on the road as a first step.

I think the obvious place to go first is the Australian Dept. of Motor Vehicles, if anyone has the VIN information and most recent owner if any, it would be them. But don't go there asking about a 1972 Red and Cream Jaguar Series 1, you have to bring solid information like the Vehicle Identification Number, and you might have to sign an Affidavit explaining your reason for the search, which might require the services of an attorney to get you pass the layers of privacy that car registrations have.
