Series 1 - manual choke from factory?
Hello all from central Illinois. I am currently looking for a classic series 1 to take the place of my current '97 XJ6. I am confused about what type of choke was originally fitted by the factory for USA-bound cars, did they use an automatic choke, or was a manual choke used?
I just looked at a clean '72 that was using a manual choke, but I would have thought that emission rules would have ruled out manual chokes by 1972.
Any guidance would be most appreciated.
Best regards,
Bruce

Manual choke was standard on the USA Ser I cars.
Not sure about the ROW cars. I think they may have used the old "electric starting carburetor" or "automatic enrichment device" systems. They were probably too imprecise to meet regulations....but using a manual choke skirted the regulations.
Cheers
