We spent most of yesterday replacing all 4 drain hoses. Such a fun job trying to run pipes down pillars and into the inner guards. At least this time round there are no kinks such as we found with the old pipes we removed. They were also joined with different size pipes which in its own would cause restrictions and potential blockages. Now they are 1 piece all the way. I'm sure Clarke will post pictures as he does. Not exactly sure what he actually did for most of the day. Just kidding. He was the hold this, get that man on the job.

Insulation tape used to seal the joins. Never a perfect seal. Somewhere else for things to go wrong.

I had the painter over today, a couple of weeks before he can do the rust repair and paint.
Still trying to source a seal, and still no idea of a brand for the sunroof. It is smaller than ones I have had local S2 & S3 owners measure for me.

The painter says it is not factory but probably dealer fitted, but one of the best installs he has seen in a car of that vintage. From his point of view it was a very expensive job in 1973. Done by a real tradesman and not a parts fitter.

He has left me with a list of the things I have to do before he comes to do his part of the job.

Kudos on a very workmanlike approach to a good fix.

So the three local guys that do mobile sunroof repairs don't want to touch it. Jagdaim sell a seal for 80-87 but don't take parts back if they are wrong. The same pic is listed on two ebay sights for 72-87 XJ6 and 69-87 XJ6(Jagdaim say it is the same seal they sell). Can't tell from the pics if it will work.

We are thinking to ask Jagdaim to see if we can buy one and see if it will suit with the option of returning it for a store credit because I buy a lot of stuff off them. Would be pretty average service from them if they don't.

Other than that we are pretty well stuffed and will have to seal it up after the paint.

I'm hoping it will work, or maybe be close so Dr Phill can weave his magic. Every search I have done comes up with th same three pictures.

The prolem we have is on S1 & S2 is that they were dealer fitted. None of those dealers exist now. Even the best pics I have from S2 etc are diffrent to mine.
If i could source a brand it might help. Webasto was taken over by another mob in 2000. But they never had an official distributor in Australia (so I am told before that) and it was hit and miss getting parts then. Hollandia are the Webasto agent but dont hold records further back than 1988.

They layout in the illustration definitely looks like "Series III".

I think they're playin' things a bit fast-n-loose with the model year range !

FWIW, years ago I helped a fellow with an aftermarket sunroof ("American Sunroof Corporation") on his Jag and we found a near perfect match for the seal at the local VW specialty supplier.

Cheers
DD

I had a sunroof from American Sunroof in my '72 Jag.. found parts at a place in Saginaw, MI 48604, gentlemen was Jake Kelley, 1-888-298-8140. email was jakekelley@outlook.com.

He had the seal around the hole and the one in the rear that goes across rear portion. He also had motor gears etc...

I attached the manual for the sunroof and one photo of the RF portion of the track so you can identify it to see it this will help.

Thank you Roger, the sunroof is quite different to yours. My seal goes on the sliding panel.

I have spent the last two weeks phoning every Jaguar parts supplier I could find to see if anyone knows what brand of Sunroof would have been fitted to a series 1.
I talked to a supplier in Sydney who said he had only ever seen one S1 with a sunroof and that was a Regency Red one in Sydney he sealed the panel up on about 20 years ago I'm thinking that was my car, it was regency red and was in Sydney until the late 90's.

I was put on to a sunroof mob in Melbourne who used to fit them for the Sydney & Melbourne dealers in the 70's and 80's. Turned out to be dead end after many calls and emails back & forth. The guy I spoke to was fitting to S2 & 3 but never did an S1.

So never determined the make of the sunroof, and no seals available for that style of roof.

I got some close up pics of the one Jagdaim are selling for 80-87 XJ6's(others on ebay have the same seal listed for 69-87). It is not the right size, the S3 sunroof is bigger. But it looks very similar to the pieces of the old seal we saved.

So after showing Dr Phill the pics we decided to purchase one and cut it to make it fit. If we can't get it to seal we will seal the panel in again like it was before removal.

The painter is coming this weekend to do the rust repairs and paint.

Cutting up a SIII seal might be the only way to get a sealing sunroof.
Just keep in mind that the seal has to remain flexible at the point where you'll reconnect the two ends. I tried to repair the new seal that I ripped while installing it on the sunroof I reconditioned on my SIII, by inserting a plastic piece of tubing covered in glue inside the hollow seal, but that didn't work. The hard part caused the motor to cut out prematurely, not completely closing the roof. A new seal is awaiting fitment as we speak.....

Dr Phill & I spent the afternoon rubbing back the rust and treating it with rust converter. The painter came over and gave it the nod, all ready for him to do his part on Sunday.
He took the Sunroof panel away to do the rust repairs so it is ready for Sunday as well.

Hoping the seal arrives tomorrow so we can see if it will work.

What started out 4 years ago as a project for me totally different to rebuilding bikes has turned into a shitload of fun for me and my best mate (of over 40 years). What more could you ask for.
