Series 1 XJ6 guages

My center console gauges on my 1973 Jaguar XJ6 work for amperes, and oil pressure, but water temperature and fuel gauge are inoperative. A new temperature sending unit did not fix the water temperature issue.

Any and all thoughts would be appreciated on causes/cures.

One thing that the fuel and temp gauges have in common is the voltage stabilizer. If it goes on the blink those two gauges will give trouble. Others will have more info.

Cheers

Voltage stabilizer picture and locations

I cut a section from XJ parts manual to show the two locations on the rear of the gauges... one is early and one late... location vary by VIN number.

I have replaced this piece twice with electronic ones available by searching on Google.. it seems MGs and other had this same piece and there is now a modern solution.. two wires to hook up.

I forget the actual voltage if using a meter on the back side.. but it is lower/different than battery voltage(?)...just read the Service Manual and it should be 10V...

Should first confirm that the PCB on the rear of the gauges has no broken lands...the traces for that gauge is complete...clean the contact areas with
a pencil eraser "carefully"...
