Series 1 XJ6 Ignition Switch

Greetings, Gentlemen. I'm a long-time lurker and would like to begin by thanking everyone for the all the knowledge and pointers I've gotten from this forum. They have been invaluable as I work through the issues on my car, a 1972 BRG XJ6.

I've recently been left stranded by a failing ignition switch. It turns out that this part is quite difficult to obtain. My highly competent mechanic has told me that XKs Unlimited/Moss do not stock the part, and I've had no luck locating one myself. There are apparently a few available across the pond at exorbitant prices, so I would prefer not to go that route.

The Series 2 switch is more readily available but has a different wiring configuration than the Series 1 switch, so we're not sure yet if it will work or not. Have any of you ever dealt with this challenge? Again, thank you for the assistance!

Hi,
I am not familiar with the Series 1 switch but I am with the Series 3 switch.

Have you tried opening it and trying to fix it?

The Series 3 switch can be opened and serviced, this is why I ask.

Also have you checked with a salvage yard ?

Hi Jose, I have not tried taking it apart yet but that may be the last resort. As for used parts - I've checked with David Boger, who didn't have any in stock. In Arkansas there aren't a great many XJ6es at the breaker yards...it's been a challenge to get good used parts. I will keep looking. Thanks!

Check with Robert Laughton near Niagara Falls in Canada. He may very well have one. Robert is a member of this forum and a good guy to deal with
