Series 2 compatibility
 

Hello pls tell me if im in the wrong place im completely new to forums (and cars for that matter)

My dad has given me an 74 xj6 that has been sitting in his driveway for 7 years (hes a motorbike guy...)

And now ive purchased an 76 xj6 with a decent body but no motor or box.
My question is are the parts compatible?
The 74 apparently had nothing wrong with it when it was parked up, but now the body is rusted. It has a 350 chev engine in it....

Again if im in the wrong place or theres already information on this forum relevant pls direct me thanks!

They are bith known as eries 2 cars.

They would have been 4.2ltr 6 cylinder engined cars originally.

I am guessing on the rusty car, as it is aleady repowered, and may have been a V12??.

Soooooo, swapping what is in the rusty car TO the White car will be straight forward.

Having said that, its a motor car, they are both female, so watch out for the bites, haha.

There are a few guys on here that have done the Jag conversion multiple times and a bunch that have owned them for years so you should get any questions you bring up answered.

You also have guys like Grant and Doug who are pretty encyclopaedic at times with knowledge and advice on all the real Jag stuff on the car. Hope the project goes well for you.

I see you found the right forum.
What you're proposing to do is swap the engine and transmission of a "lumped" Jaguar to a car that had no engine or transmission. This should be relatively straightforward, but is clearly not in any Jaguar workshop manual ! Swapping out the Jaguar six with a US V8 is quite common in the US, although not done in the UK as we don't have the engines available !

While you're at it, do check out the brakes, and also the suspension ball joints and bushes of the '76 car. Whilst it may look good, these cars can suffer much neglect. One item that gets neglected is the rear brakes that are inboard next to the differential, so hard to get at. If you're in to doing work it is best to drop the whole subframe out and deal with all the worn parts in one go, then it's good for another 100k miles.
