Default Spark plug helicoil

Today I removed the spark plugs from my S1 XJ6. One of the plugs came out with what appears to be a Helicoil still attached.

The thread in the head looks to be in good condition.

I have a few questions.
Can I just replace the Helicoil and if so how do I determine the size. Or is this a job best done by an expert?

Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

Welcome to the forum MainFaye,

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to XJ6 Series I, II & III forum. Members here with the same model will be able to advise.

Same.thing happened to me years ago, i just left the helicoil on the plug, put threadlocker on it and screwed it back in, havent had a problem since! Even changing the plugs, it stayed put.

Default Some more info

Thanks for your reply. The Helicoil that came out is like a spring so will not rethread into the hole.

Yes, Helicoils look line springs. The hole is rethreaded with a larger tap specifically for the that helicoil. If you put it on the new plug it might go in easier. But you'll want to put thread locker on first, so when it finally starts you can just screw it in and forget it until next time.
