which thermastat?

Hi, It's me again with another question for the jag experts. All the tech articles I've read seem to talk about the engine & trani in the series III jags run on the hot side. Can I get input from you guys on these 3 questions:

Should I install a 160 degree thermestat vs. the 180?
Do you recommend installing an aftermarket trani cooling system?
What about aftermarket oil cooling system?

Also are the aftermarket cooling systems relatively easy to install?

Thanks!

RE: which thermastat?

I would not worry about a 4.2 Series 3 over heating. The XJS v12 was the engine that ran hot. You are safe. I would install a tappet hold down kit. Maybe that is what they were referring to.

We have them here:

I would have a mechanic do it. You must drill into the head and then tap the holes. You must be careful not to drill into the water jacket and keep all the metal shavings from entering the engine.

RE: which thermastat?

Just another thought. You can remove the oil filler cap and look to see if you already have this installed. Just look in with a flashlight and see if the guides have metal plates holding them down.
