Tips & Tricks for Jaguar XJ-6 Series 3 Part 2

did you know you can modify the Auxiliary Cooling Fan (black plastic fan located under the front bumper, front of radiator, driver's side), to run continuously during hot Summer months every time you turn the A/C ON in your XJ-6 ?

Normal Operation:
Normally this auxiliary cooling fan comes ON through a Thermo-Switch located on the bottom corner of the radiator (passenger side, engine compartment side), after the coolant temperature exceeds a certain pre-set temperature. That's why you may shut the engine and the fan will keep running until the coolant temperature is reduced.

But Jaguars run HOT! and watching the temp. gauge and waiting for this fan to come ON during hot weather can be worrysome, especially in stop-n-go traffic during Summer, not good.

You can download free instructions for this modification at Jag-Lovers.com, and then you can run to your local Radio Shack to look for the required parts, which will cost you about $5.00 for all the supplies needed, assuming they have the parts in stock and you don't have to drive to another location.

http://www.jag-lovers.com (search for Aux. Fan Mod in the 1980-1987 XJ section).

Or you can save your gasoline and time ordering a pre-made kit from Jaguar-Graveyard.com for around $15.00 or so delivered. You don't need a solder gun.
This mod is reversible, (just disconnect it) as soon as Fall weather arrives, because in cold weather, you don't need that fan running at all, in any case you want to keep it OFF.

TRIVIA: the XJ-12 came pre-wired from the factory as above, talk about HOT, on top of the 12 cylinder engine, you can install a rotisserie and cook a bar-b-q or boil water if you're up on Mount McKinley. Of course, Doug is against that too.
