Torque Converter problems?

I notice in my 86 XJ6 VDP that when i give it some gas after putting it into "D" after it has sat for a few days the engine revs but the car moves very slowly. After a min or two it behings to accelerate normally. Could this be a Torque converter issue or a transmission issue, i had the transmission rebuilt 1 yea and a half ago.. only 4000 miles on it. Any ideas?

Did you check the transmission fluid level?

That's step one, step two would be to take it back to the trans guy so he can check the band adjustment. That's a Model 66 Borg Warner, it had external band adjusters.

Cat, keep on eye on the date of the post and the number of posts that some of these folks have made. Sometimes I make the mistake of going a long way to try to help somebody who may have written in, but never checks back for an answer. If they do, they never check back in to say thanks. Just a heads up, welcome to the party.

Thanks for the heads up on that Jagtech. I didn't notice the dates till you pointed it out.
If memory serves me right(and most times it dosen't) Didn't these have a problem with the sealing rings on the drum not seating or was it the drum was out of round making rebuiling a pain because of fluid bypass.

Can't answer that, as many dozens as I replaced, I never rebuilt one. One of the bigger problems with rebuilt installers was that they never set the pressure correctly (at the kicdown cable adjuster), so the shift points were wrong and incorrect application led to premature failures. Not much else I can add, I hope this guy doesn't have a big problem on his hands but I'd be concerned.

well this has always bothered me. WHen it was rebuilt about a montha afterward, i would see little puddles of red liquid under my car. The guys who rebuilt my tranny live 1hr away. However the transmission fluid level was always and still is at the normal levels. However it used to puddle all the time under the car. Eventually it stopped and everything was fine for 6months then the car when it sat for awhile it would sometimes do that whole delay acceleration. I just thought it was overfilled and it was purging the fluid. I drive the car everyday and for some reason ithink it should have more acceleration.
