Default Transmission

Hey everyone,
so on a long highway trip this weekend I noticed the car was making a humming rumbling noise. It then kicked down its gear for no reason. When I got into the city the car makes a loud noise under acceleration in the gearbox.

Noise under acceleration usually means the transmission pump is starving for fluid. Check the fluid level and consider doing a filter change.

If the trans is toast I've got a 1976 parts car with 42k miles located in New York City.

also check the colour of the fluid, if it's a dirty blackened red then change it and preferably the filter as above.
