Default turbo 400 auto

Hi I'm after a jaguar turbo 400 auto gearbox for my car for rebuild. my transmission builder wanted to fit a 4l60 auto but id rather stay original.
Thanks

Its not what you asked and probably not what you want to hear but your transmission builder is giving you good advice. A 4l60/T700 will give you a sharper accelerating car, quieter low rpm cruise and better fuel consumption. A T400 will give you the reverse, and I say that as a T400 owner.

Mine will be gone as soon as it breaks, which is of course something T400s dont do very much.

Gumtree and Ebay should have quite a few T400s, not many people want them except the drag racing community due to basic strength. It is basically a GM truck transmisson.

Yeah, not to mention the addition of Overdrive. Cruise effortless at 70 mph or whatever that translates to in KM's!!!

Is swapping one GM transmission for another later and better one a real bust of originality?? I dunno.

Now the lumping of my car is a clear bust, wide open. The LT1 backed by the electronic version of the transmission your mechanic suggests fits and performs so nicely in my car.

Tom496.

He, he!!!

I guess gas is cheap and your wallet fat. Not to mention extending the life of the V12.
Fixing them is easy and cheap !!!

Tongue firmly in cheek.

Caveat; I am a form believer in "so as you please". Societal limited, of course.

Tom:

Oh well, buzz and enjoy. Swap war tales with RONbros at the XJS forum!!!

I delight in 80 MPH at about 2K rpm. And, my LT1 still has plenty of punch w/o a down shift up there. 2.88 rear x .70 OD is a tall gear set. But, the engine's orque band is well suited for it....

HEY, your a reconditioner , so just fix your own transmission!

99% of the truck 400 parts will fit the Jag case, and stronger!

Ahhh, my ignorance. I thought it was just the result of the shopping expeditions they used to do to GM, and their TH400 was just a standard TH400. Didnt realise there was tweakage. Understand the orginality thing is important to you.

I know from a thread in VIC/TAS that there are a few XJs sitting in wreckers , that may be a source.
