Turning Engine Over
Where do I find a good basic guide to turning an engine by hand to stop it getting to gummed up while not being started? there's a magic Jaguar Tool, right?

HAHAHAH, special Jag tool,YEP, you, a socket, lots of swear words.
You will need alcohol of course, for YOU, not the engine. Find a socket to fit that hex nut thingy on the bottom pulley, which is the front end of the crankshaft, and then a breaker bar to fit the socket, and rotate CLOCKWISE ONLY as view looking at the FRONT of the engine. Unless its going to sit for years, dont bother too much. I went to the MK X yesterday, and its been 3 years, and fresh fuel, intravenously fed to the 3 carbies, charged battery, turned the key, pushed the button, and away it went, FAITH, ya gotta have FAITH. I removed the sparkers, and reapplied oil to each cylinder, and went home. |
20" length of 1/2" square tubing, C clamp with 1 5/16" socket. This allows reaching crank nut from top

Got it. So the special Jaguar tool can only be purchased at a pub or bottle store. Understood. :)

Quick learner, luv ya.
You sir will go far in Jaguar ownership. Top marks all round. My MK X venture was a 4 stubbie task. One for each carby, and one after it fired and kept running. |
This is my homemade tool. Shortened 1 5/16” socket easily fits in tight space and cutout in handle provides extra turning against pulleys. http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/n...psv0vqhawx.jpg http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps6oonxfpi.jpg http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps3ja8mgck.jpg |
