Default URO hose warning.

This is a URO hose from a 1988 XJS with 175k kms (top left rad hose) of which ive been responsible for 4000. The hose has been on the car for around 6 mths and has done around 500km. The hose was replaced as part of a service where all hoses were replaced as were the thermostats and rad caps. The caps and stats are Jag , the hose came as part of a set from a reputed specialist that was a mix of Jag and URO hoses. The hose blew under mild acceleration in second at around 100kmph just as it was about to hit third.

l did research URO and found bad reviews, BUT i am inherently cheap and when i saw a set on sale over the winter I decided that them selling it was a good enough qualification for me. l dont think ive ever seen this little reinforcing in a rad hose before.

.............................and the car? Fortunately i was not out and about but up on a highway fault finding. l killed the motor and left the ign on, i managed to coast 3.5kms mostly down a gravel road to the cottage, which had its brown moments, with no assist the steering of a XJS is sublime at 100kmph + not so much fun at 10. l lost almost 3 gallons of coolant. lt was 10c and raining, the gauge never went over the top of the N (not even sure if it would having lost that much blood). Since repair ive done a few heat cycles and a 200km trip all seems ok.

Dont be like Markel, dont be cheap and have to do it twice...............if you are lucky

Back in 2011, I put URO flex discs on my nice Mercedes Benz 560SEL. This happened after 11 months. The only reason that they're in business is because people make buying decisions based on the bottom dollar This will eventually push the quality suppliers out as they can't compete on price and won't sell junk.

You reap what you sow.
