VIN Breakdown of '85 xj6?
 

Hey guys, i'm not sure weather my 1985 XJ6 is a Vanden Plas or not.... does anyone know how to tell by the VIN? or by another means? I looked at the VIN decoders on another thread, and they didn't have the XJ6 posted.

I think i just figured it out....5th digit in VIN is either:

V: Base model XJ6

Y: Vanden Plas.

Correct me if i'm wrong :)

Looks right to me but there are many visual XJ6 vs VDP identifiers as well.

What kind of Visual differences?

The "flat" seats versus standard XJ6, the individual seats in the rear vs. a "bench" seat, the recessed instruments, the different wood, rear reading lamps.....

Door trim panels with black sections at the top and having inlaid wood strips.....

Carpeted front kick panels.....

And, of course, the "Vanden Plas" emblem at the rear....assuming the car is original
