What is this cable for?

I just bought a 1994 XJ6 for my winter car and after putting in new front shocks, I noticed this broken braided cable that goes from the wheel speed sensor bolt to the brake line fittings. It appears to be just some sort of braided ground cable in a sheath. I have a Hayes repair manual which does not show this, nor can I find anything online. It's on both left and right front. Anyone know what this is for? If needed?

It sounds like anti-lock brakes speed sensor cables parts DBC 5370 (right) & DBC 5371 (left)
Cheers

Thanks for the response, however its not the wheel speed sensor itself. THis is just a braided ground strap that goes between the speed sensor bolt and then attaches to the brake line coupler at the body frame. It just looks like a body ground cable. It's just funny that I see it in not repair manuals: text or pics. I have bought a standard braid 15" cable today that I will use top replace it. Thanks

Maybe i'm wrong as i can't quite work it out from the description, but could it be the wear indicator? If it was the ABS sensor wire then the ABS warning light would be on if the wire is broken. The wear indicator wire would run from the brake pad / lining to a connection somewhere. If it is then you don't need it, they come on way too early, i find the best wear indicator is a pronounced grinding noise. If they aint grinding then they dont need changing!

John I agree that pad wear indicators do come on early, but can't believe that you think metal on metal is a good idea. :(

@ Skertz, I can seem to get the image to copy properly but however from your description of what sounds to be an earth strap I would say that it is...

The Wheel hub Earth lead, part no LJA 3744AC (page 53 of Parts File 2 in the FAQ, full detailed parts files can be found for download in the FAQ).

Could be wrong though;)

Memory is not that good, I looked it up.

That was it.

Thanks Richard. That was it, Wheel hub earth load (ground strap). I replaced with a 15" battery strap from local auto store.
