where is reverse lamp switch 1986 XJ6 automatic
should be in the driver's side of transmission. Download the Service Manual from the https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ck-links-5913/
From a search of forum, Motorcarman says:
Switch is on left side of transmission.
"2 wires are for the P/N start inhibitor and the other 2 are for the reverse lamps.
The P/N wires will 'make contact' in 2 places (Park and Neutral) and the other 2 wires will be closed circuit in only one position (Reverse)."
While performing my state inspection I was told my reverse lights worked but were "flaky".

It should be noted that not all the switches were slotted for adjustment. If not, the mount hole can be enlarged

Have the reverse lights ever worked properly? If so, I would not be
adjusting / moving the switch,.. as it is probably set correctly. instead I would be testing the circuit for continuity first. Simple system - easy to trouble shoot with a cheap test light.

Yup.
And, as I recall, they are only "lit" with the ignition switch on. I'm sensitive to switch sourced volts.
On lumping, that switch or a similar one went to the shift tower ala XJS.
Alas, mine went "bonkers". Reverse lamps always on!!! For now, I removed the bulbs. In the spring, I'll open the console and address the switch on the shift tower. Durn, I had a new one. it left along with the original tower to a needed lister. so, I hoe it is merely an adjustment thing.
I'm good at opening the console cavity....
