Will series 2 towbar fit series 1?
 

As I now have an incredible engine in my series 1, I want to use all the power it has. What better way to do so then by towing stuff.

I was offered a towbar from a series 2, but will this fit my series 1? The series 2 is from 79, my series 1 is from 70.

My thoughts are that the chassis hasn't changed between s1 and s2, but I am asking just to be sure. A little cut or weld is not a problem, but the work on making it fit has to be limited.

I had a pretty good look into this,but the only series 2 towbars I could find bolted into the panel under the bumper and not to anything solid.
Check it out thoroughly, I picked one up locally and took it to local guy that fits towbars,bullbars etc. He advised he wouldn't be towing 3 bikes with it as it didn't fix well enough to solid parts so I took his advice and returned the towbar and carried on towing with my Jeep.
Maybe someone else has fitted one of these and had no problem towing heavy loads.He suggested maybe 300-400kg gross wieght(max)

I felt it could be an expensive mistake not to take his advice.(repairing or replacing up to 3 bikes,and not all mine)

Maybe there is a better design available where you are.

I got a picture of the towbar. As you can see, this one is different as the one shown in the thread mentioned above. This one has someting going under the car, connected to the chassis...

That is certainly more substantial than the one I got hold of then. The one I had only had the four bolts you can see in the pic and one further down in the lower panel but not bolted to the chasis.
If I could find one to bolt to the chasis I would use it.
