Windshield wiper home position
 

I realize that I can adjust where the park position is just by removing the arm and repositioning on the stem. But where on the windshield is it supposed to park. The higher up the more visab

they should park at the passenger side, not the Driver's. I think you have something upside down. Or the wrong motor, Australian and European motors park on the left side because the steering wheel is on the Right Hand side. American motors park on the Right Hand side.

My wipers have shorter blades than that but this is how they sit.
I think the idea was hatched Across the Pond where controls are on the other side of the car, so the driver side wiper is always flat. Series 2 and 3 Jags imported to Merca that I have seen all have this hang over problem rendering that wiper Useless if it's more than 3 days old, as the rubber takes a set and fails to touch the glass in the center where it's needed.

I toyed with the idea of fabricating a shorter blade for the left side to deal with this, but as I don't drive Nix in bad weather anyway, I never got around to it.

yes, in Canada / US / America, Left Hand Drive Jaguar wipers park on the passenger side. You need a LHD car, Right Park motor complete with Cable, to make an easy fix.

Sounds like I would also need two wiper arms that bend towards the passenger side instead of my present ones bent towards the driver's side. I'm still on shock that I've owned this car for 17 years and I'm just finding this out!!

yes, you need the Right Park arms too. You can get the whole enchilada from David. If he doesn't have the right park motor I have a used one.

Maybe the previous owner changed the setup? or was the car imported to the US ?

there are two ways of looking at this:

1) if you are sitting in the car,

2) if you are standing in front of the car.

If sitting in the car, and the car is Left Hand Drive, the wipers should park to your Right / Passenger side.

If Standing in front of the car looking at the wipers of a Left Hand Drive car, the wipers should park to the Left / Passenger side.

Sorry Butson, my mistake. But you can mod the wipers to Series 3 specs.

I brought up this question a while ago when I saw some pictures of our cars( in the USA) on this forum. Some of them were parked on the driver side of the vehicle and others (including mine) parked on the passenger side of the vehicle.
Further research showed that some cars used 15" blades on both sides which caused the overlap when the wipers parked on the driver or passenger side.
Truth be told. I solved that by using the Series 1 sizes on my Series 3.
15" on the driver side and 14" on the passenger side.

AS PER THE PARTS MANUAL I HAVE: (XJ6 1969-1987)
Series 1: Driver side #38-150 =15" passenger Side #38-140 = 14" (Parks on the left side the vehicle).
Series 2: 15" on both sides
Series 3: 15" on both sides

On my LHD Series II it parks at the driver side, but does't go over the window edge. The wiper blades are 15" long:

That was one of the reasons I brought up the question.
On a LHD car, if the wipers park on the left side of the vehicle, the distance from the left hand wiper pivot(where the arm is attached) is 20+" from the edge of the windshield, so a 15" blade works fine. The swivel point of the blade on the arm is about 7".
However, if the wipers park on the right side of the vehicle, the right hand pivot is only 18" from the edge of the windshield so the 15" wiper blade is too long.

Like when I got caught in a sudden squall yesterday (not with Nix) and was rendered nearly blind for a moment.

I would measure them but I am in California and the car is in Ohio but below is a photo. Series III car; my point is see how low and flat they sit? And the entire blade is on the glass. Looks like the arm is straight and not bent as many are.

Wow! I had no idea I would be bringing up such a varied opinion/option issue. Guess nothing is straightforward with our Jaguars. But still fun it is! I'll start doing some experimenting. And yes, mine is a Series II. And I know it was made for an American market. And frankly it doesn't park on its own anyways; I have to flip the switch off at just the right time. So I can probably choose how I where I want it to park with some arms/blades/repositioning changes.

Well, As does Elinor, I rarely drive my jaguar in the rain. But, it's wipers park nicely on the passenger's side. On occasion, I use the Gregory move to correct the park.

At last, we get some "dry" days. But even with the sun out, it is cold.....
