Wiper motor V.s relay?

'84 XJ6, wipers are inop. Motor or relay?

If it comes down to simply taking a stab at something, I'd go with the switch. The failure rate of the switch is many times higher than the motor or relay.

Have you checked the fuse?

Do you have a test light or meter to make a couple basic checks?

Fuse, fuse, fuse. My story: 1992 Series III V12 VDP, never, ever in the rain. Wipers tested yearly. One year the wipers on testing (pulled away from the glass, of course) moved about an inch and then nothing. No movement, no sound. I checked the fuse -which looked fine, but for assurance I replaced it. No joy. Hmmmm....the column switch....looked perfect, operated as it should. Looked at and check the park switch at the wiper motor, no problem...checked all connections....replaced the fuse again, just in case. No joy. After taking Valium I decided that before tearing the wiper motor apart I would check with my Jaguar-specialist mechanic. He listened to the story and said "Mate, it's the fuse" (He is English, and he can take apart and rebuild these cars before his morning coffee: those two facts are unrelated). "But Frank, I replaced the fuse twice". "It's the fuse".
He got under the dash to access the fuse box, fiddled for 10 seconds and said "try them" . I did. They worked perfectly.
Now exactly what he did, I don't know, and instead of answering my question about that he just smiled...and before you ask, yes, I did tighten the fuse cradle arms each time I replaced the fuse.
my experience with electrical issues on these cars is that it is ALWAYS either the fuse or the connector and for both of these the gremlin is often a light coating on the contacts. Often just rotating the fuse will restore connection, particularly for headlamp malfunction.
so, the fuse first, second, third....and only then, the switch.

Thanks to both of you, will investigate further and report back. Fingers crossed it's as simple as a fuse or loose connection!

My guess from afar is that Frank did the finger roll fix!!! I discovered it works when my head lamps fail to perform as ordered!! :

My jaguar's wipers are seldom used. But, I check the operation on occasion. At times by accident and at times intended. Stalks have never been my choice!!!

the blue wiper relay is only for the intermittent speed, if you have the intermittent speed, the relay is fine.
