Wooden Steering Wheel
 

Where could I find a classy wooden steering wheel for my 82 XJ6? Are there any common universal wheels like a Nardi that will fit? Any one on this forum have any expierience upgrading the stock steering wheel?

An 82 XJ6, so it must be a Series 3 fuel injection job like I had from 1988 to 2002.

To the best of my knowledge there was never an official Jaguar wood rim steering wheel for the XJ Series 3, but there were plenty of after-market wood-rim wheels. There may have been a Jag one for the XJS, which might fit, but its a matter of finding one, (eBay ??). You could also try Moto-Lita of England. They definitely cover the XJ6 Series 3, but they are not cheap, but at least you don't have to worry about an airbag fitting !

On another Jaguar related forum there was quite a discussion on the Series III options. Apparently there are several common steering wheel manufacturers that produce adaptors and growler centre caps for some of their products. Someone had even posted a link to a rather nice wood wheel, designed specifically for our vintages, that was on E-bay for a while.
The other group, more focused on older Jaguar restoration, suggested that we should keep our cars more original and look for one of the optional wheels that were offered in later years and on the XJS. That might be an option depending on the look you are after.
Either way, there are replacement steering wheel options!

XKE Streering wheel restoaration - refinishing
 

I've stripped and glued my 67 XKE steering wheet - does anyone know if the factory original finish was laquer, or shellac then laquered or what the process was?

check the "Trophy Collection" sold by Moss Motors. Whether wood or leather, I like their thickness or "grip", because I don't like skinny steering wheels. Nardi, Motolita, Skinny, not suited for a heavy car like the XJ-6 IMHO. Personally I think the Nardi and Motolita are way overpriced, the Trophy collection are relatively inexpensive and high quality. Made in China. Moss Motors has the hub adapters too.

Jaguar Sport used to make a nice "sport" steering wheel in the late 1980's early 1990's, which was then adopted by Ford Mustangs, same wheel, different cars, different spline. No fit.

in my car I ended with a Momo Olympic (leather), thick grip, 15", (no longer made), makes the car drive more comfortable than the School Bus sized original wheel. In my S type I use a Trophy Collection 15" black leather wheel. I had a motolity in my MG-B back in 1970, the lacquer started to peel in less than 1 year, a total PITA.
