Default XJ12 s2 - Fuel tank color?

Hi
I just got the fuel tanks sand blasted and primed (outside). I have 2 questions:

1) What color should they have originally? When I removed them they were military green / grey / brown / rusty… =)
2) What is the purpose of those "carpets" that were glued to them (mostly rotten and falling off)?

Thanks
Marcus

they were green.

the material glued to one side is to reduce sympathetic resonances when the tank is empty / hollow.

the same green color is also found in the center arm rest bracket of the rear seat Back. To see it you need to remove the rear seat Back then look under the seat.

Hi, true. A similar color is there. Bit hard to see the original color, quite rusty and dirty =)
