XJ6 1989 info needed please !

Hi guys ! I am pretty new around. Read a little bit about Jaguars but can't seem to find enough informations to help me out. Hope you can help me. I actually own a Cadillac Fleetwood 1996 with 133 000km and is in pretty good shape. A guy that I just crossed wanted to trade his XJ6 1989 V6 3.6 for my Fleetwood. The car looks good and interesting. Nothing like something I owned before ! I wanted to know what do you think of those cars ? It has 244 000km; is the engine/tranny gonna last long if well treated and maintained ? Is there anything special I should look for before I make the trade ? Looking forward to test drive it to see how it handles !

Anyways, thanks for your help !

Hi....

The 1989 XJ6 is also known as the XJ40... There is a seperate forum for those cars, and you can read up on some of the particulars there...
From what I've seen, people either really love or really don't like those models. They were made at a time when Jaguar was starting to be more under the leadership of a different company (although the XJ40 project was started in the early 80s...)

Thing is this... We can't know what kind of condition either of the cars are in... so it's going to come down to how you feel about each of them....
But on the surface, it seems that you'd be almost doubling the mileage that is on your current car, for a car you don't know anything about... And an 89 with nearly 158,000 miles on it is going to show some wear...

Personally, I'm a Series 3 (80-87) kind of guy.... I like the cars, I understand them and can work on them myself.... The 88-94s are kind of a gray area for me... And I think the 95-97 cars are some of the best Jaguars ever made...
Given the current prices of each, I can buy a Series 3 for what alot of people's car payments are... I can't afford to work on an XJ40 for what a lot of people's car payments are, and with the X300 I can both afford the payment, and expect not to have to work on it very much...

Cheers!
David
