I have a xj6 series 1 1972 (I think)
Car No. 1L30874.bw Body No. 4L48015
Engine 7L56169 S Gearbox 37991


Can anyone tell me from these NO's if I have a bw8 or a bw12 g/box

72 will be a series 1, do you have a picture of the front of the car? engine 7L could be either 2.8 ltr or 4.2 Ltr. ....2.8 ltr usually had the BW 35F box & the 4.2 had the model 8......model 12 was in the early S2 but may have been swapped sometime??/ pan gasket should be the same

 

A 1972 with 4.2 will have a BW12 trans.
