Thanks Alyn:

I printed part and drew part. Fussy computer.

I see two known issues before the unknown ones!!

Cruise control not hooked up.

Speedo not modifies.

Back up lamps not in operation.

As I recall, the old J-l has a lot on this.

Side bar:

Billy not in his usual early AM places ! I called out to him. OK !!
A goat that comes when called!!! Kinda like a really big dog, but with prominent horns and the will and skill to use them.

Carl

I have a 86 Vanden Plas and I need to have the console wood replaced for wood refinish. How hard is it to remove that piece; or should I take it to a dealer?

piece of cake to remove the panel. But if you haven't done it before, it may seem difficult. You have to disassemble a number of parts to get behind the 6 switches at the ski slope to disconnect them, and then you have to label each one as you disconnect them so when you get the panel back you know what goes where.

the good news? all 5 of the switches are the same, and only the Master ON-OFF switch is different, but it only has two wires, so you can't really misconnect it. Just make a note of how the switch was, take pictures.

the black plastic tray is very thin and delicate and it can crack at the edges as you pull it.

Mine is not a Vanden Plas but I did mine with wood veneer. Here it is without the clearcoat.

Hi - Trying to recreate what you did for the dash. Couple questions - You started with the iron at 75% or did you do anything first to prep the surface? Did you use steam on the iron and have a cloth in between? Just hoping to not reinvent the wheel. Thanks!

Default Over in the Uk

Maybe not helpful for you guys over the Atlantic but I took my dash and centre console to be veneered and lacquered at Chapman and Cliffe in Cheshire, UK. They had it for five weeks but did a magnificent job with beautiful burr walnut. At one point I was wondering whether to hang it on my wall rather than reinstall it as it was such a work or art. They charged me about $650 - well worth it.

Rather than take the car off the road I bought a replacement dash and console
from EBay for $40 (it even included a full set of instruments!). The console I bought wasn’t as good as the one in my car (and was the version for a computer rather than clock) so I swapped them out. I left the original dash were it was and sent the EBay purchase to be worked on. The wood had almost completely flaked off the replacement console so I sanded it down and painted it in crackle black. Despite my amateurism; it didn’t look bad.

Not the best paint job but it looked OK.

Can highly recommend Chapman and Cliff. They have a long lead time but it’s worth the wait.

Thanks. The craftsman who did the work learned their trade in the Bentley factory not far away. Proper quality.
