Default XJ6 soveraign draining battery?

Does anybody has a clue, what it could be draining the battery?

all lights are off.

could it be the cars radio and clock?, thats the only thing I see, that remains on.

if there is leak (electrical) how to detect it?
I am not driving the car as yet, but I turn it on, once a week a leave it running for 10 minutes.

any advise would be appreciate.

Do you have an XJ40 or Series III ?
I read that some Series III fan stuck open and even when you shut the engine off it kept running and hence drained battery .
Radio and clock would not be using that much power to drain a battery
A good dexter electrician can see if there is a leak or not . BTW, you also have a voltmeter and see its readings .
I had a '88 XJ40 and due to battery problems ,I had electrician install a switch so when you turn it left or right( I can't remember now which direction it was ) it was cutting all the basically same job just like unpluggin neg battery cable .
You may also need a new alternator which is more expensive way

Hi, not sure that the answer is not in your post. If you are not driving the car, then disconnect the battery (and trickle charge it) rather than just starting it for 10 mins once a week.

The batt will progressively drain over time and so your 10 min runs at idle will not really give it chance to recover from starting and you perpetuate the down hill cycle.

Also I my experience I have never come accross a battery in anything, car, phone, computer, drill... that likes very short recharging cycles, these will also eventually kill the battery.

Clock/security system will drain a battery over time.

Cheers,

XJ6 1992

I should have remove the battery since now is dead, I can't even recharge that sucker.

Good advise with the trickle charge instead of wasting gas.

I removed the alarm thing, cause the car didnt have the control remote to play with so, I disconnected.

The fan is fine, is does not stuck (running).

there most be a short somewhere, unless the battery was going bad, who knows.

thank you guys for your input.

Happy Good Friday

Default Updates

Here is the latest, Back in May 2010, I replaced again my battery, since it was completly dead, Now at the end of September, the new battery died again. So I learned if one remove the negative post from the battery and conect a 12 volts light tester, it will tell you if you have an open circuit somewhere.

I went shopping at amazon and I got this short circuit finder device for 28 bucks, I got it this week, and it sure this thing work well, it seems that the electric motor for my driver window, somehow gets shorted, when I hoocked that device it emitts an intermitent signal, good thing it created a click noise at the window motor, the metal sheet was hot to the touch.

What is odd the electric motor works, it brings down and up the window.
So I disconected the fuse for that window to take out of the equation, but I still have some draw, I am hoping isn't that bad as before.

does anybody know what the sleep mode draw on a xj6 soveraign 1992?

I disconected the alternator wires and my light tester still on, I haven't disconnect yet my starter, thats the next item on the list.
